Decontamination Trailer
Interior
Decontamination is preformed for both the public and our hazardous materials response personnel when they have been either exposed to, or contaminated by hazardous materials.
This unit was originally our main haz-mat response trailer. It carried all of our haz-mat suits, and equipment. When we acquired our newest haz-mat trailer, this trailer was converted into a decontamination unit by BTFD personnel. The inside contains 2 x4 walls, and showers and hose hookups made from pvc piping. The entire interior is covered by spray-on Rhino lining. The Rhino lining has a clear coat over it that contains white pigment to help with the lighting. Lighting is provided by a low voltage lighting system. The lights can be seen by enlarging thumbnail 2, or 4 below. This trailer contains disposable clothing for patients that have been decontaminated, and also carries our portable decontamination showers (seen in picture 6).
Our decontamination trailer is designed to except water from an engine or the brush truck that pulls the haz-mat trailer. Contaminated runoff is then collected in 20 gallon Lab-Pack drums for disposal. The department carries a portable on-demand water heater to provide warm water for all of our decontamination systems. These systems include portable decontamination showers for technical decon, the decon trailer pictured below, and a 12 x 24 inflatable mass decontamination tent.
